Silliman to Host 3 International Science Conferences

This week, Silliman will play host to three international events that will gather several academicians and experts in the field of science.

On October 20 to 22, the 18th Samahang Pisika ng Visayas at Mindanao (SPVM) National Physics Conference will be held at the University’s Luce Auditorium and Guy Hall, along with its two breakout conferences: the 2016 International Conference on Material Science and Nanotechnology, and 4th International Meeting for Complex Systems.

Tertiary and secondary physics academics and researchers, as well as physics students from across the country are expected to attend this three-day activity. The conference will include plenary and parallel sessions, as well as poster paper presentations on relevant research findings in the fields of materials science, nanotechnology, medical physics, photonics, computational physics, theoretical physics, soft matter biophysics for complex systems, and related fields such as functional physics education programs and pedagogy in teaching physics.

Endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Education (DepEd), this event will feature experts and researchers from different countries, including Singapore, Austria, Mexico, Poland, Taiwan, Portugal, Japan, Malaysia, and the Philippines. They will serve as speakers for the event’s various sessions.

This year’s SPVM is sponsored by the Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) and the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD).
