Professor Hashimoto is former president of SG and concurrently the director of its International Office. It was under his administration as president that SG and Silliman entered into a student exchange partnership.

The professor was in the University along with SG Religion Officer Prof. Kohichi Shinizu and four Japanese students pursuing different degrees in humanities at SG.

During his meeting with Professor Belarmino, Professor Hashimoto discussed opportunities of expanding the coverage of the collaboration between the two universities to include English orientation, and the possibility of reinforcing the memorandum of agreement that both institutions entered into in the early 2000 during the time of then Silliman President Dr. Agustin Pulido.

SG is one of three Japanese universities with which Silliman has a standing student exchange program. The other two are Ferris University in Yokohama and the International Christian University in Tokyo.
