Alumna elected chair of UN Charter Committee

Silliman University (SU) alumna Kira Christianne Danganan-Azucena, as the Chargé d’affaires, a.i. and Deputy Permanent Representative of the Philippine Permanent Mission to UN Headquarters, New York, has been elected last February 18, 2020 as Chair of the Special Committee on the Charter of the UN and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organization.

According to the UN Ad Hoc and Special Committees website, the Special Committee on the Charter of the UN and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organization examines “suggestions and proposals regarding the Charter and the strengthening of the role of the UN with regard to the maintenance and consolidation of international peace and security, the development of cooperation among all nations and the promotion of the rules of international law.”

A Sillimanian since pre-school, Danganan-Azucena graduated with a degree in mass communication, magna cum laude, in 1994.
