College of Computer Studies Dean Dr. Dave E. Marcial presented a paper on open learning at an international conference held May 16 to 18 at the Hong Kong Baptist University in Hong Kong.

Dr. Marcial’s paper, “Open Online Course: A Case Study at Silliman University”, shared the University’s experiences in managing an open online course through an active platform called the Silliman Online University Learning (SOUL). He also presented an evaluation on SOUL in terms of its content, platform requirements, and the profiles of both its learners and facilitators.

Attended by select scholars from member institutions of the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia, the international conference on Technology-Assisted Teaching and Learning for Whole Person Education: Opportunities and Challenges tackled recent trends and disruptions affecting higher education in Asia. It also provided a venue for discussions on innovative ways for academic institutions to leverage technological advances for the promotion of whole person education.

The conference was organized and sponsored by the United Board.
