Apo Island Bakery Project

This Apo Community bakery was made possible through funds from the Apo Reef Gala. Apo Reef Gala was a benefit event put together by the Filipino community in Chicago, USA during the opening of the SHEDD Aquarium.

The Shedd aquarium showcases Philippine Reefs in its Wild Reefs exhibit, the biggest live coral exhibit in the world, wherein special emphasis was placed on the collective efforts of Apo community in preserving its reefs.

The grant of P190,000 was implemented by the APCODA, acronym for Apo Progressive Community Development Association, Inc. headed by Annie Omilig. The only stipulation is that APCODA sets aside 50% of its profit (back to the funds) equivalent to the whole amount of the grant, for other Apo residents to avail of. for microenterpises. The bakery is on its second year of operation.
