Former Silliman University President Dr. Agustin A. Pulido officially turned over his memorabilia last month at the Main Library.

Dr. Pulido, who served the University for 10 years from 1996 as 11th President, described the donation as his way of “fulfilling my commitment to the University”, just like what he asked of his predecessors when he started the project.

Displayed in his glass cabinets are academic regalia, plaques, pictures, and other items that speak of his achievements as an academician and Silliman president.

Silliman President Dr. Ben S. Malayang III welcomed the donation of memorabilia, and said that one can view through the memorabilia three things: (1) the ministry of Dr. Pulido – how he steered to academic excellence the University on both “calm and stormy waters”; (2) the grace and glory of God – how God revealed the sustaining grace and glory of God to Dr. Pulido and his family when in his leadership of Silliman; and (3) the soul of the person – who Dr. Pulido is as a person and who he had been when he carried out his ministry in Silliman.

The idea of establishing a section in the library to host the memorabilia collections of the past Silliman presidents started in 1996 when Dr. Pulido saw the memorabilia collection of Dr. Leopoldo Ruiz, the first Filipino president of Silliman. He then started to get in touch with his predecessors and their families, and introduced the idea to them. He got their support.

Displayed on the second floor of the Main Library are memorabilia collections of the following past Presidents: Dr. Ruiz (1953-1961) Dr. Cicero D. Calderon (1962-1971), Dr. Proceso U. Udarbe (Acting President 1971-1973), Dr. Quintin S. Doromal (1973 – 1982), Justice Venancio Aldecoa Jr. (1983-1986), Engr. Juan B. Escarda (Interim President 1990), Dr. Angel A. Alcala (Acting President 1982-1983, 1986-1987 / President 1991-1992) and Dr. Mervyn J. Misajon (1994-1996).
