Silliman, Dumaguete Government Ink Agreement on Eco-Park Development

Silliman University and the City Government of Dumaguete entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on the establishment and maintenance of an Eco-Park along Silliman Beach in Barangay Bantayan, on a property of the University.

The agreement, signed by Silliman President Dr. Ben S. Malayang III and Dumaguete Mayor Atty. Felipe Antonio B. Remollo on March 20 at the City Hall, binds both parties to a facility that promotes environmental awareness and enhances the right of the people to a balanced ecology.

A boost to local eco-tourism, the Eco-Park features recreational facilities that showcase current projects and initiatives of the University in the area of mangrove reforestation and coastal and marine life conservation.

It will be open to the public and its maintenance and promotion will be part of the tourism program of Dumaguete. The University commits to securing funds from donations for its establishment.

Present during the signing from the University were National Scientist and Silliman Trustee Dr. Angel C. Alcala, Vice President for Development Prof. Jane Annette L. Belarmino and Institute of Environmental and Marine Sciences Director Dr. Hilconida P. Calumpong. On the part of the City, in attendance were Councilors Hon. Lilani Ramon, Hon. Alan Gel Cordova, Hon.
