Mr. Bandal ranked sixth in the recent Bar Exams and was the only topnotcher from the Visayas. He was a consistent honor student throughout his college (graduating magna cum laude) and Law years, and was named one of the Top 10 Students of the Philippines in 2003.
Dr. Alcala is currently a Member of the Board of Trustees at Silliman University. He holds the distinction of Professor Emeritus. He has served Silliman as University President and the Philippine government as Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. He obtained his graduate and post-graduate degrees from Stanford University. In 1992, he received the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service.
Wilson Mendoza was the only Filipino in the recently concluded US expedition to Antarctica (read story: http://beta.su.edu.ph/article/355-Alumnus-Reflects-on). He graduated from Silliman in 1999 with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, cum laude. He is currently a doctoral candidate majoring in Marine and Atmospheric Chemistry at the University of Miami Rosentiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science Mendoza. In 2009, he received the Mary Roche Prize, in recognition of his outstanding research at sea and scientific excellence. He finished his master's degree at the University of the Philippines-Diliman, where he received the Dean's Medallion for Outstanding Master's Graduate Student.
Dr. Genove is the Dean of the College of Mass Communication of Silliman University. She also teaches Speech at the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
Dr. Alforque teaches Economics at the Silliman University College of Business Administration. He used to work in a bank. His contribution was the sermon he delivered at the Silliman University Church on September 18, 2011, on the celebration of UCM Sunday.
Ms Fontelo works at the Silliman University Medical School. She is married to Mr. Carlo Fontelo with whom she has a daughter, Karla. In her cover note attached to her contribution, a sermon she delivered at the Silliman University Church, she said: "I am truly humbled and hugely grateful for the Lord's big gestures of love to me and my family."
Dr. Lourdino A. Yuzon was the keynote speaker during the 50th Church Workers Convocation at Silliman University on August 28, 2011.
Professor Briones is former National Treasurer of the Republic of the Philippines. She is an Outstanding Sillimanian in the field of Fiscal and Public Administration, and has served Silliman University as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees. She holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Development Organization major in Public Enterprises and a Certificate in Policy for Public Enterprise from Leeds University in England and the Harvard Institute for International Development, respectively. Presently, she is professor at the National College of Public Administration and Governance at the University of the Philippines. Professor Briones maintains a regular column, "Boiled Green Bananas, " in the Business Mirror.
Professor Lasmarias-Kelso was named Outstanding Sillimanian in the field of Education in 2004. The website, www.intervarsity.org, writes of her: "A university professor and a consultant for international programs, Priscilla Lasmarias Kelso did her graduate work in English and American Literature at Stanford University on the theme of the fall and redemption in Nathaniel Hawthorneâ??s novels. Her two-track career has also taken her to seven countries in her work with international education. She is currently retired with her husband, Bart, a Presbyterian minister. Over the years, they have nurtured a cross-cultural marriage and grown many gardens. Priscilla served on the board of trustees of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/ USA for 10 years."
