The Silliman University Civil Engineering Class of 1985, led by Engineer’s Arnold T. Antonio, Maria Elena Abejero Duran, Vicente Barot, and Chilvier Cisneros Patrimonio, has responded to the call to give assistance to the Dumaguete City garbage collectors and Bantay Dagat fisher folks during the government initiated Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in the fight to contain the spread of the Coronavirus in Negros Oriental, April 3 – 30, 2020. The assistance came in the form of 5 kilos rice and assorted canned goods. The distribution was done last April 23, 2020 to 226 garbage collectors at the Dumaguete City Dump Site and 23 Bantay Dagat fisher folks in Banilad, Dumaguete City. Engr. Antonio said, their engineering batch will be celebrating their 35th Reunion this coming August 24 – 28, 2020 during Silliman University’s Founders Day, but with the turn of events, decided to celebrate in advance by helping the city’s garbage collectors and Bantay Dagat fisher folk. Antonio hopes other Silliman alumni reunioning groups will consider helping those who have less in life, especially in these uncertain times brought about by the Coronavirus pandemic.
