Silliman Journal goes online, widens reach

The Silliman Journal, the interdisciplinary, peer-refereed academic journal of Silliman University, can now be accessed online through http://sillimanjournal.edu.ph

Articles in the Silliman Journal of Silliman University can now be accessed globally with the launch of the journal’s online system.

Dr. Warlito Caturay Jr., the editor of the academic journal, said: “By making the articles available online, Silliman helps provide readers around the world access to up-to-date information, allowing them to peruse materials that may facilitate research endeavors and collaboration.”

This shift to online from print will not only increase the journal’s reach but help in its indexing and improve its impact factor.

The Silliman Journal Online system is designed and customized using an Open Journal Access System, an open-source solution for managing and publishing scholarly journals. Its comprehensive web-based system manages the entire submission, editorial, and publishing workflow online.

Dr. Dave Marcial, a member of the journal’s Editorial Board and Director of Silliman Online University Learning, says that the created online system provides world-class standardization in publishing and indexing.

“The online system has many features including responsive reader front-end, flexible and configurable editorial workflow, online submission and management, email notification for readers, and complete context-sensitive online help support,” said Marcial.

The system is also ready for indexing, discoverability, export tools and integration with publishing services such as Crossref, ORCiD, and DOAJ; and is optimized for search engine discovery and for comprehensive indexing of content.

The journal can be accessed at https://sillimanjournal.su.edu.ph. Readers can register for free and send manuscripts for possible publication.

First published in 1954, the Silliman Journal has published articles in the social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities.
