SU among top performing schools in nursing board; alumna ranks 8th in exam

Silliman University (SU) achieved a 100% passing rate with one of its graduates ranking eighth in the November 2023 Professional Nursing Licensure Examination, making it among the Philippine Regulatory Board’s (PRC) top nursing schools in the country.

With 168 examinees passing the licensure exam, SU was ranked by PRC to be among the top 1 performing schools in the country with 50 or more examinees and with at least 85% passing rate.

This year, PRC announced that 25,761 out of 32,203 (80.44%) passed the exam.

Shirnyl Hannah Magos, who graduated cum laude from the College of Nursing (CoN) in May 2023, ranked 8th among the examinees with the highest ratings in the exam. Her rating was 89.60%, which was a few points lower than the highest score, which was 91.00%.

Magos said that her placement was unexpected.

“My journey preparing for the NLE over the last six months has been quite a rollercoaster ride. After enduring numerous hardships and struggles leading up to our NLE [national licensure exam], discovering my achievement as one of this year’s NLE topnotchers was a surreal moment,” said Magos.

She credits SU and CoN’s rigorous preparation and supportive environment for her success.

“As I move forward, I carry with me the lessons learned, the love received, and the gratitude in my heart. This achievement marks not just a personal milestone but a testament to the power of perseverance and the strength found in unity. I’m excited to embrace the challenges ahead, knowing that the foundation laid here at Silliman University will continue to guide my path,” said Magos. 

For her performance in the examination, Magos will receive from SU a cash incentive of P200,000, based on a Board of Trustees Action on cash incentives to be given to alumni topnotchers in national licensure exams.
