SU to honor 12 Heritage Builders
Silliman University (SU), through the Organizational Development and Human Resource Management Office, will honor 12 former faculty and staff members as this year’s Heritage Builders in recognition of their years of service and contributions to the University.
The recognition ceremony will be held on August 26, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Silliman Hall, as part of the University’s 125th Founders Day celebration.
This year’s Heritage Builders are:
- Norma M. Abubakar, Department of English and Literature faculty member (1967-1996)
- Atty. Alexander G. Amor, College of Law and College of Mass Communication faculty member (1963-2008)
- Engr. Alfredo T. Ang, Computer Center pioneer and Electrical Engineering faculty member, 1981-2006
- Juan D. Campos, Bible and Biology Teacher (1919-1930)
- Virgilio De La Salde, Silliman Church and Library staff member (1995-2020)
- Nena S. Guasa, Librarian (1961-2000)
- Perfecto A. Guasa, Librarian (1961-2000)
- Christian H. and Lois W. Hanlin, Pre-Law, Mathematics, and English teacher (1913-1925)
- Engr. Isagani D. Lepiten, Engineering professor and dean (1965-1998)
- Dr. Leonilda M. Magdamo, Filipino and Foreign Languages faculty member and chairperson (1963-2000)
- Arch. Renato C. Sindiong, Architect and Engineering faculty member (1972- 1990)
The Heritage Builders recognition is a Founders Day tradition that pays tribute to former faculty and staff members whose years of dedicated service helped shape Silliman University. Established in 2007, the program honors individuals who served the University for at least 10 years and made significant contributions during their time at Silliman.
Through the program, the University remembers the people whose work, commitment, and service have become part of its institutional heritage, ensuring that their contributions are remembered by succeeding generations of Sillimanians.
This year’s recognition takes on added significance as Silliman marks its 125th anniversary under the theme, “125 Years of Legacy: Remembering with Gratitude, Moving Forward with Hope.” The Heritage Builders reflect this spirit of remembrance and gratitude, representing generations of men and women whose service helped lay the foundations on which the University continues to build.
