SURCY receives Philippine Red Cross Bronze Award for blood donation efforts
The Silliman University Red Cross Youth (SURCY) was honored by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Negros Oriental Chapter with the Bronze Award for its outstanding contribution to voluntary blood donation during the Annual National Blood Services Stakeholders Recognition on July 24, 2026, at the Sierra Hotel in Dumaguete City.
SURCY earned the recognition after mobilizing blood donors and collecting at least 75 units of blood in 2025, helping support the PRC’s efforts to maintain a safe and adequate blood supply in Negros Oriental.
The annual recognition program brought together around 150 representatives from local government units, educational institutions, civic organizations, businesses, and volunteer groups that have contributed to strengthening blood donation initiatives across the province.
During the ceremony, the PRC Negros Oriental Chapter also formalized partnerships with various institutions through the signing of agreements for its Emergency Medical Services program, reinforcing collaboration in emergency response and humanitarian service.
The event featured welcome remarks from PRC Negros Oriental Chapter Board of Directors Chairperson Dr. Henry Sojor, followed by the ceremonial signing of partnership agreements and the recognition of blood donation advocates, partner organizations, and award recipients.
Receiving the award on behalf of Silliman University were SURCY President Andra Clairette Zate, Vice President Krisha C. Yway, Adviser Dr. Dionesio V. Piñero II, and Dr. Theorose June Q. Bustillo, dean of the College of Nursing and member of the PRC Negros Oriental Chapter Board of Directors.
In her message, PRC Negros Oriental Chapter Administrator Michelle Maquiling underscored the vital role of volunteers and partner institutions in advancing the organization’s humanitarian mission.
“Today celebrates what we have accomplished together. The Philippine Red Cross Negros Oriental Chapter proudly recognizes and honors its valued partners, voluntary blood donors, advocates, and volunteers whose unwavering dedication has made a lasting impact,” Maquiling said.
