Backgound

Silliman University, just like any other higher education institution, has been greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The campus shutdown led to a quick pivot to remote learning, exposing the fragmented adoption of educational technology and digital capabilities across thousands of colleges and universities. Before the health and economic crises, there was already widespread acknowledgment that the existing traditional education models needed some degree of overhaul and rethinking. Today’s crises accelerated that process, pushing students, educators, and government leaders to carefully examine higher education through the new lens of traditional classroom versus multiple digital delivery models. Digital and virtual alumni engagement strategies have become an essential component of higher education programs and a new reality of alumni relations.

Amidst the challenges and uncertainty of online learning, the Silliman Alumni of New England (SANE) in collaboration with the Silliman University Alumni Council of North America (SUACONA), plans to utilize the education and leadership of its alumni membership through engagements that allow for sharing of time, expertise, and talents with the students, staff, and faculty through virtual engagement. Our goal is to contribute to the University’s learning resources that will prove useful to students, faculty, and staff.

Project Rationale

  1. The program provides a virtual platform for University and alumni engagement.
  2. The program encourages alumni and their networks to contribute their expertise and talent to the University community.
  3. The program nurtures alumni engagement that will make them feel reconnected with the University by recognizing their skills, understanding their interests, and building value of their relationship.
  4. The program strengthens the University online learning by tapping into the alumni and their networks around the world by providing:
    a. A dynamic, interactive, and high-touch virtual learning experience designed to engage and set up for growth,
    b. Online face-time, networking, group work, and Q&A opportunities, and,
    c. Practical takeaways and hands-on knowledge.
  5. The program enables the University to establish a repository for online learning resources that allows access to all recorded online sessions, presentation materials, worksheets, supplemental reading, videos, and other resources.
