Portal East Building Nears Completion, Final Beam Installed

Halfway through its construction, the final beam of the Portal East Building was installed last June 30.

In a topping-off ceremony to mark a new stage in its construction, bringing it closer to eventual completion, University officials signed the final beam. An evergreen tree was put in the beam as a sign of respect for the environment. The ceremony was also held to acknowledge the workers, and engineers, and the tradesmen involved in the construction of the Portal East building.

Vice President for Development Prof. Jane Annette Belarmino, Vice President for Finance and Administration Atty. Fe Marie Tagle, University Pastor Rev. Noriel Capulong, along with representatives and engineers from G. Uymatiao Jr. Construction led the installation of the final beam.

Portal East is the tallest all-steel building in Silliman and in Dumaguete City, located within the University’s commercial zone. It forms part of the University’s Twin Portals Project initiated by the Board of Trustees to help augment non-tuition revenues. Across the Portal East is the realization of the first half of the project, Portal West building.

Target completion of the Portal East building is this December 2016.
