‘David’s Slingshot’ Released

Silliman University launched David’s Slingshot, a book containing a compilation of opinion columns by a distinguished alumnus whose works have seen print in national dailies. 

The book is written by Dr. Efren N. Padilla, 2005 Outstanding Sillimanian in Urban Studies. He is currently Director of the Urban Studies Program at the California State University at East Bay. 

Dr. Padilla is a graduate of Silliman. He obtained from the University his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, cum laude, and Master of Arts in Sociology in 1976 and 1980, respectively. He completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Urban and Regional Planning from the Michigan State University. Back then, he was a Fulbright-Hays Scholar to the Florida State University and the Michigan State University.

In recognition for his achievements, he was awarded as Faculty of the Year for Student Mentoring Program from California State University at East Bay in 1996 and the Urban Affairs Dissertation Award from Michigan State University in 1986.

His other published works are: American Urban and Regional Experience from Kendall/Hunt publishing house and Perspectives on Urban Society: From Preindustrial to Postindustrial, distributed by Ally & Bacon.

David’s Slingshot is published by Silliman University under the Printing and Publishing Unit. Asst. Prof. Sonia B. Sygaco from the Speech and Theatre Department of the College of Performing and Visual Arts served as the book’s managing editor.
