Top-notch Filipino designer and Sillimanian, Amir Sali, was featured in the final show of the Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2017 held at Discovery Primera, Makati City on May 28, 2017.

The internationally-acclaimed Filipino master couturier drew inspiration for his latest collection entitled:  In the Beginning, from the Book of Genesis’ account of the creation and Garden of Eden.  Amir’s collection featured sheer pieces embellished with figures of birds, flowers, insects, and other animals accented with beadwork and fringes.

Amir worked for 17 years in Egypt and Saudi Arabia where among his clientele were members of the Middle East royal family and elite.  He graduated from Silliman University High School in 1982 with fellow batch mate, Los Angeles-based fashion designer, Alexis Monsanto.

Silliman alumna, Dr. Laura D. Garcia, was recently honored by The Association of Fil-Am Teachers of America, Inc. (AFTA), as Ulirang Guro awardee on May 27, 2017 during its Gabi ng Parangal at the Astoria World Manor, New York.

The AFTA, a pioneering organization for teachers on the East Coast, annually recognizes teachers, students, and leaders in the community who epitomize excellence, dedication, leadership, and supports AFTA’s causes.

Dr. Garcia obtained her Nursing degree from Silliman University in 1981.  She is currently the president of the Silliman University Alumni Association New York-New Jersey chapter (SUAA NY-NJ).
