Silliman National Writers Workshop Opens its 56th Edition

Asia’s oldest creative writing workshop of its kind opened its 56th edition on May 8 at the Rose Lamb Sobrepeña Writers Village, Camp Lookout, Valencia, with this year’s 10 fellows, resident, and guest panelists.

The Silliman University National Writers Workshop (SUNWW) opening was graced by Director-in-Residence Jaime An Lim, Resident Writer Cesar Ruiz Aquino, Regular Panelists Gemino H. Abad and Alfred Yuson, and this week’s Guest Panelists Jose Wendell Capili and J. Neil Garcia.

Grace Monte de Ramos, Danilo Francisco Reyes, Anthony Tan, and International Panelist Beth Yahp of Australia will be the Guest Panelists in the next two weeks.

SUNWW was founded in 1962 by Southeast Asian Write Awardee Edilberto K. Tiempo and National Artist Edith L. Tiempo. It was recently given the Tanging Parangal in the Gawad CCP Para sa Sining by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

In the opening remarks by Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Betsy Joy Tan, she called the workshop as a “cherished academic tradition” of the University.
