Pastors Gathered for Theological Consultation on Calamities
Pastors will gather at the Divinity School on March 18 to 20 for a “Theological Consultation-Workshop on the Situation of Calamities and Disasters.”
The activity reinforces the call for action on both practical and theological questions, arising especially from the recent tragedies in 2013 that rocked the Visayas and Mindnao, which continue to pose a challenge to churches.
Participants will revisit the theological concept of “evil” and will also engage themselves on the science behind calamities. They will outline solutions that churches could consider as they prepare for and continue to deal with different issues involving disaster management and response. Focus is given on the care afforded victims.
Speakers have been invited to help provide depth to the gathering: Dr. Marlon Rosendo H. Daza, Director for the Device and Failure Analysis of Sun Power Philippines Manufacturing LTD on “Understanding the Earth: Why do Calamities Arise?”, and Silliman President Dr. Ben S. Malayang III on the catalytic role of higher education institutions in times of disaster.
