
15 SU faculty & staff awarded for two decades of service
Silliman University (SU) honored fifteen faculty and staff members with the 20-Year Service Recognition Award in a ceremony held on April 30, 2025, at Guy Hall, attended by their families and friends.
This year’s awardees from the faculty include Asst. Prof. Maria Ellaine A. Adarna (College of Nursing), Esmeralda G. Alos (SU Library), Asst. Prof. Liza Marie D. Banquerigo (College of Arts and Sciences), Asst. Prof. Christopher A. Burgos (Divinity School), Asst. Prof. Marnesa P. Campoy (College of Nursing), Asst. Prof. Mary Nathalie M. Cata-al (College of Nursing), Asst. Prof. Engr. Johnson B. Diputado (College of Engineering and Design), Dr. Theresa A. Guino-o (College of Nursing), Paul R. Pinili (Junior High School), Asst. Prof. Ana Vee A. Riconalla (Food and Auxiliary Services), Jocelyn P. Tapang (Elementary School), and Brenda A. Vilan (Early Childhood School).

Meanwhile, the staff awardees include Glynnis Jean C. Casiño (Strategic Partnerships and Development Enterprise), Percival Gerard M. Genove (Information and Communications Technology Division), and Leolynn Marie C. Tabios (Office of Student Services).
Dr. Betty Cernol McCann, SU president, thanked all fifteen awardees, underscoring their years of service as “a story of perseverance and commitment, a story marked by early mornings of waking up, challenging tasks, inspired teaching, quiet acts of kindness, and tireless efforts behind the scenes.”
“Today, we pause in gratitude and celebration as we recognize the faithful service of our faculty and staff, individuals who have devoted their time, talents, and hearts to the mission of this Christian institution,” McCann said.

“To the honorees, this Service Recognition Award ceremony is really more than a formality. It is a symbol of the heartfelt expression of gratitude for the years you have devoted to shaping minds, nurturing values, and contributing to our shared mission,” she added.
Dr. Margaret Helen U. Alvarez, SU interim vice president for Academic Affairs and Research (VPAAR), also remarked, in her welcome message, that events like this “remind us of the length of time we have been committed to a career and a work life at one institution–Silliman University.”
In her response, Asst. Prof. Marnesa P. Campoy from the College of Nursing spoke about her long-time dream of becoming a nurse ever since she found herself feeling “fascinated by the human body, by diseases, by how care can change lives.”
“One afternoon, in that same [City Library] library, I stumbled upon a tiny magazine. On its pages was an article about Silliman University College of Nursing. It spoke of excellence. It spoke of brilliance. It spoke of a place where the best nurses were formed,” she recalled.

“That same evening, without hesitation, I told my father, “Pa, dinhi ko gusto mo eskwela sa [Pa, I want to study here at] Silliman University College of Nursing,” she said.

Years later, not only did she finish her Bachelor’s at SUCN, she also completed her Master’s degree at the very same institution she had only dreamed of as a child. Currently, she is finishing her PhD in Gerontology Nursing.
Meanwhile, Glynnis Jean C. Casiño, SPED officer-in-charge, also responded on behalf of the staff and thanked her colleagues and friends who have supported her for twenty years at the university.

The event was organized by the Organizational Development & Human Resource Management (OD-HRM), headed by Dr. Lourdes Angela F. Piñero, OD-HRM chief.
Alongside McCann and Alvarez present at the Faculty and Staff Recognition were Rev. Jonathan R. Pia, SU Church senior pastor; Dr. Mae Brigitt Bernadel L. Villordon, interim assistant vice president for Academic Affairs (AVPAA) and concurrent College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) dean; Asst. Prof. Jonathan Mark N. Te, Silliman University Faculty Association (SUFA) president; and colleagues and family members of the awardees.
