Alumni Update July 19 – 25, 2021

SU Student Government receives alumni pledge of support

In a Silliman University Alumni Council of North America (SUACONA)-initiated symposium with SU Administrators, alumni, and a representative from the students last July 16, 2021, Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee and former SUACONA Chair, Dr. Renato D. Querubin, pledged 4,000 US Dollars in support of the SU Student Government’s (SUSG) notable programs for the school year 2021-2022.

SUSG President Myka G. Reambonanza shared during the symposium the following programs: Health Emergency Response Team (HERT); increase in student financial aid; expansion of operations of the 11 Days of Sharing (11 DOS) Outreach Program; and the translation of key university events to an online setup.

The theme of the symposium, “Working Together for a Lifetime of Learning during Covid-19 and Beyond,” gave the opportunity for SU President, Dr. Betty Cernol-McCann; SU Board of Trustees Chair, Mr. Ricardo A. Balbido, Jr.; Alumni and External Affairs Director, Mr. Ruben N. Bokingo; and Silliman Alumni Association, Inc. (SAAI) President, Judge Jennylind A. Delorino, to give their respective updates and how the University has weathered the ongoing pandemic.

The symposium also included a presentation by Ms. Tracie Jones, Director for Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Harvard University.

The symposium which was done via Zoom and was participated by representatives from the 17 alumni chapter members of SUACONA. The SUACONA Covid-19 Symposium Committee was headed by Committee Chair Beatriz Jackson, with the following members: Jose Mari “Jojo” Antonio, Cecille Duyungco, Janette Abella, Myrish Antonio, Laura Garcia, Faith Manigsaca-Duran and Evangeline Bravo-Manjares, current SUACONA Chair and SU Trustee representing overseas alumni.

The symposium concluded with a strong resolve that there is hope and SU will ride over the Covid-19 health crisis with alumni support.
