Senior MassCom Student Named Best Speaker in Asia Pacific Conference

Senior Mass Communication student Val Amiel Vestil was awarded Best Speaker in the Asia Pacific Future Leaders Conference held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on November 24 to 27.

The Conference, which was organized by the Asia Pacific Leaders Initiative, exposed more than 150 delegates from countries in the Asia Pacific – including Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Myanmar, and Japan – to sessions that were geared towards solving real world problems with digital solutions, as well as talks on innovation economy.

During the second day of the Conference, participants did a focus group discussion and presentation, as they were divided into small groups. Each group had to create a project or an app (application) or campaign that will solve given problems. Val was both group leader and group presenter. The project presentations were the basis for choosing the Best Speaker.

Philippines had six representatives for the conference: two from the University of the Philippines – Diliman, one from Bicol University, two young professionals, and Val, representing Silliman University.

This year’s Asia Pacific Leaders Conference theme was “Digital Leaders in the 21st Century”.
