ILO Seals Partnership with Silliman

Silliman University and the International Labour Organization (ILO) signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) on August 25 establishing the ILO Knowledge Corner at the Robert B. and Metta J. Silliman Library.

ILO Country Director Mr. Lawrenece Jeff Johnson and Silliman University President Dr. Ben S. Malayang III formalized the partnership that reinforced the functions of the Center primarily as a source of labor publications and information materials.

In the afternoon after the MoA signing, Mr. Johnson gave a lecture on “Pathways to Education and Decent Work for Youth.”

The Department of Labor and Employment website describes Mr. Johnson as “one of the leading experts on labour market indicators, trends and evaluation, employment and labour market policy.”  Before his assignment in the Philippines, he was Chief of the ILO’s Employment Trends Department, overseeing flagship reports such as the Global Employment Trends and the World Employment Report, which dealt with women and youth groups.

ILO’s partnership expands the number of knowledge centers at the Library. The three other centers are the Knowledge for Development Center of the World Bank, the American Studies Resource Center of the United States Embassy, and the     Philippine    American Educational Foundation Satellite Advising Center which handles scholarships such as the Fulbright.
