Canadian Embassy Brings Veteran Journalist to SU

The Embassy of Canada brought to Silliman University recently veteran journalist Mr. Ed Lingao (second from left), the recipient of the prestigious 2010 Marshall MacLuhan Award. Mr. Lingao discussed the critical role of journalists and shared his experience in covering historic events, including the Afghanistan war and the infamous Maguindanao massacre, to a group of mass communication students and faculty. Presently multimedia director of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, Mr. Lingao was recognized with the award by the Canadian Embassy for his extensive coverage on human rights, election reforms and governance, and breaking grounds in practicing multimedia journalism. His lecture at Silliman was part of the annual Marshall MacLuhan Lecture Series, which was named after the great Canadian communication theorist.  Together with him in the photo are: (L-R) Mr. Carlo Figueroa, Public Affairs Officer, Canadian Embassy (leftmost); Dr. Ma.
