According to United Nations Development Programme – UNDP, gender-based violence (GBV) increases during every type of emergency. Pre-existing gender inequalities and economic stress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with restricted movement and social isolation measures, have led to an exponential increase in GBV.
The U.S. Embassy, as part of an ongoing virtual seminar series, is providing a platform for Filipinos to discuss these challenges and the available support systems for women and girls during these uncertain times. The discussion will also highlight the implications of COVID-19 on gender issues, and measures to engage more women and girls in community health decision-making and leadership.
