SU inaugurates solar power energy system in Apo Island

Silliman University (SU) representatives, led by Dr. Earl Jude Paul L. Cleope, vice-president for academic affairs and National Service Training Program (NSTP) director, inaugurated a 3,000-watt solar power energy system at Apo Island Elementary School, August 12, 2022. The project will provide electricity for students’ teaching and learning activities, disaster risk reduction and management, and the health needs of the Apo Island community.

The project is initiated by the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), Office of Community Engagement and Service-Learning (OCESL), with support and assistance from friends of SU, Jimmy Tee and Celso Advincula.

CWTS, OCESL, and SUCC Multipurpose Cooperative Community Development Committee have also supported the renovation of the school library that typhoon Odette damaged in December 2021.

Dr. Giovanni T. Macahig, university registrar and CWTS coordinator; Novee E. Maestrecampo, OCESL assistant to the director; Assoc. Prof. Reagan P. Jomao-as and John Bael also attended the inauguration.
