SU to host Net Zero Carbon Alliance assembly
Silliman University (SU) will host the 2023 third-quarter assembly of the Net Zero Carbon Alliance (NZCA) from July 27-28, which will gather institutional partners of the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) to discuss the difference between carbon neutrality and going net zero, and the importance of carbon capture in both practices.
The NZCA is a multi-sectoral movement initiated by the EDC to aim for net zero carbon emissions among businesses in the Philippines.
The assembly includes speakers who will share their expertise and experiences on various aspects of sustainable practices and environmental stewardship, namely: Ava Taniajura, managing director of Philippine operations at the British Standards Institution, who will differentiate carbon neutrality and going net zero and the importance of carbon capture; Jimson Solatre of EDC, who will talk about nature-based solutions for carbon capture; and Dr. Nida Calumpong of SU, who will talk about mangrove carbon stock assessment.
Among the companies and organizations that will be represented in the assembly include Arthaland, CEMEX, Drink, First Balfour, INAEC Aviation, Knowles, Menarco Dev’t Corp., Monde Nissin, Unilever, British Standards Institution, Razza, and Eco-Business.
SU is a longstanding partner of EDC, specifically in initiatives for environmental conservation and protection such as the SU-EDC BINHI Arboretum.
Members of the NZCA, such as SU, come up with a roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality by sharing best practices, scaling up carbon emission reduction and tracking, and providing better access to green financing, among many other capacity-building tools.
