SU students win awards at health research and innovation conference

SU College of Nursing students, Camille Marie A. Allena, Angela Jane E. Viliran, and Tisha Faye D. Espinas were recognized for their research works at the CVHRIC.

Silliman University (SU) students won several awards at the 9th Central Visayas Health Research and Innovation Conference (CVHRIC), held in Cebu City on May 8-10, 2024.

Nestor D. Maquiling Jr., a Medical Technology student at the (SU) Institute of Clinical Laboratory Science, won second place in the experimental research category for his work, “Screening of Brown Marine Algae (Padina pavonica) for Potential Phytochemical, Antioxidant, Angiosuppressive, and Teratogenic Effect on Mallard Duck (Anas platyrhynchos) Embryos.”

SU College of Nursing student, Tisha Faye D. Espinas, also won second place in the qualitative research category for her work, “Influencers of Resignation Among Nurses in Private and Government Hospitals in Negros Oriental.”

Meanwhile, Camille Marie A. Allena, also a student of the College of Nursing, was a finalist in the non-experimental category for her work, “Correlations of Socio-demographics, Attitudes towards Breastfeeding, and Intentions for Breastfeeding Support of First-Time Fathers in Dumaguete City.”

Aside from the research categories, CVHRIC also featured the three-minute pitch to policymakers competition. Angela Jane E. Viliran, a nursing student, won third place for her pitch on the “Availability of Basic Emergency Medical Resources among Business Establishments in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.”

The 9th CVHRIC invited the researchers from all Central Visayas Consortium for Health Research and Development member institutions to submit health-related research relevant to the theme, “Harmonizing Health Innovation in Central Visayas: Leveraging Technology in Achieving SDGs.”

The event was organized by the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, Cebu Normal University, and the University of Cebu.

The winners received certificates of recognition and cash prizes.
