SU joins 62nd ACSCU national convention

Silliman University, through Dr. Betty Cernol McCann, president; Dr. Earl Jude Paul L. Cleope, vice president for Academic Affairs and Research; and Dr. Dave E. Marcial, director of the Dr. Mariano C. Lao Global Studies Center, participated in the 62nd National Convention of the Association of Christian Schools, Colleges, and Universities (ACSCU) held at the Adventist University of the Philippines Campus, Silang, Cavite on June 10-12, 2024.

In her capacity as president of the ACSCU, Dr. McCann delivered the keynote address and gave updates on the first day of convention and interacted with the participants during her President’s Time on the last day.

Meanwhile, Dr. Marcial served as one of the plenary speakers and talked about professional development, Artificial Intelligence, and micro-credentialing.

With the theme, “Innovating Christian Education: Navigating Challenges, Embracing Opportunities,” the national convention gathered academic leaders of ACSCU’s member institutions. Among its objectives were to encourage educators and administrators to explore innovative approaches, methods and technologies to enhance teaching, learning, and student engagement within the context of Christian education; provide opportunities for participants to explore emerging trends, opportunities and best practices in Christian education; facilitate networking, collaboration, and knowledge sharing among educators, administrators, and stakeholders within the community to strengthen partnerships, share resources, and support each other’s mission and goals; advocate for the importance and value of Christian education within the broader  educational landscapes, highlighting its distinctive contributions to academic excellence, character formation, and societal transformation; and inspire participants with a shared vision for the future of Christian education that is innovative, inclusive, and transformative and instill hope for the continued growth and impact of Christian educational institutions nationwide.

The convention provided ample opportunities for the participants to engage in discussions on the challenges faced by academic institutions. Among the topics during the plenary sessions were the MATATAG curriculum implementation, the public and private education complementarity framework, Congress legislative matters, internationalization and globalization, and emerging trends and approaches in research.

The national convention was hosted by ACSCU NCR and South Luzon Schools with lead school, Adventist University of the Philippines.
