Alumni Update August 26 – September 1, 2024

SAAI ELECTS NEW SET OF OFFICERS FOR 2024-2025

Adlai J. Amor of the Chesapeake Bay Silliman Alumni – Chapter was elected as the new President of the Silliman Alumni Association, Inc. (SAAI) during the First Regular Meeting of the SAAI Board of Trustees last August 26, 2024.

Amor is the 1994 Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee for Environmental Journalism. A true red Sillimanian, Amor is a member of the SU Elementary School (SUES) Batch 1969, SU High School (SUHS) Batch 1973, and SU Bachelor of Journalism Batch 1977.

Joining Amor as one of the SAAI officers for 2024 to 2025 is Atty. Eric Samuel P. Joven of the Sillimanians in Metro Manila (SIMM), Inc. Like Amor, Atty. Joven is also a product of Silliman’s College of Mass Communication, having earned his Bachelor of Mass Communication degree in 1998.

Leo O. Fortugaleza of the Silliman University Alumni Association Metro Manila Incorporated (SUAMMCI) was elected as Public Relations Officer. Fortugaleza is a member of the SUHS Class of 1975 and Bachelor of Science in Psychology Class of 1981.

During the said First Regular Meeting, the SAAI Board of Trustees also reappointed RD Marie Delos Reyes as the Association’s Executive Director. As Executive Director, Delos Reyes also acts as the Secretary of the SAAI Board of Trustees. Delos Reyes is a member of SUHS Class of 1995 and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Class of 1999.

Also appointed during the said Board Meeting was Lannie Opinion-Bulos as the Association’s Treasurer. Opinion-Bulos is a Certified Public Accountant and a retired Supervisor of the Commission on Audit. She is a member of the BBA-Accounting Class of 1983.

During the SAAI’s Annual Convention held in the morning of August 26, 2024, the following were also elected as members of the Board of Trustees of SAAI for the term ending in August 2027 and representing the following Region:

  1. Luzon – Emma Ray A. Panaguiton (SUAMMCI);
  2. East Visayas – Nancy Estolloso (Dumaguete Chapter);
  3. West Visayas – Thressa Mae E. Gayo (Iloilo Chapter);
  4. Mindanao – Helen Grace Uy (Cagayan de Oro Alumni Association); and
  5. At-Large – Beatriz A. Jackson (Ontario Silliman University Alumni Association).

These new members of the Board of Trustees replaced the following members of the Board whose term ended in 2024, having served two (2) consecutive terms. They are Justice Jenny Lind A. Delorino (Luzon), Al Benjie C. Lozada (East Visayas), Angeline B. Guarin (Mindanao), and Gerry D. Tan (At-large). Gayo of West Visayas was still qualified for one more term and was re-elected to the said post.

These new and re-elected members of the SAAI Board of Trustees joined the following current members: Luzon – Fortugaleza (2025) and Joven (2026); East Visayas – Rosewell R. Cataylo (2025) and Jusie Lydia Siega-Sur (2026); West Visayas – Placido Cesar O Mapa (2025) and Nanette L. Abuan (2026); Mindanao – Yasmin M. Alih (2025) and April Twinkle A. Corral (2026); and At-Large – Amor (2025) and Elizabeth L. Engle (2026).
