
SU physics freshman advances to final round of int’l youth math challenge

Zayed ABukoya Mohamed, a BS Physics freshman at Silliman University, qualifies for the final round of the International Youth Math Challenge (IYMC) 2024.
Zayed ABukoya Mohamed, a first-year BS Physics student at Silliman University, has successfully advanced to the final round of the prestigious International Youth Math Challenge (IYMC) 2024.
Competing in the Seniors category, Mohamed passed the Qualification Round in December 2024 and the Pre-Final Round in January 2025, securing a spot as a Finalist in the global competition on February 18, 2025.
The IYMC is an annual event that brings together young mathematicians from around the world and is “designed to enable students from around the world to test their problem-solving skills and expand their knowledge through diverse math problems.”

The competition is divided into three categories: Junior (10th grade and below, under 16 years old), Youth (11th to 13th grade, under 19 years old), and Senior (college level and above, 19 years old or older). Mohamed is competing at the highest level.
