US Ambassador Carlson visits American Corner – Dumaguete at SU Library, sits down with students

Her Excellency United States Ambassador MaryKay Loss Carlson led the relaunch of the American Corner – Dumaguete (AC) on May 30, 2025, inside the newly renovated Robert B. and Metta J. Silliman University Library.

While the AC has been part of Silliman University since 2003, this relaunch celebrated not only the upgraded facilities but also the enduring partnership between the U.S. and the Philippines.

Ambassador Carlson emphasized Silliman University’s roots in American philanthropy and praised the AC’s role in shaping Filipino leaders through cultural exchange, knowledge sharing, and skill-building initiatives.

Silliman University President Dr. Betty Cernol McCann underscored the AC’s value as a space of engagement, global awareness, and civic learning, noting its significance in nurturing shared democratic ideals.

The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a student roundtable discussion with Ambassador Carlson. As part of the U.S. Embassy’s global network of American Spaces, the AC remains a dynamic hub inviting students, educators, and community members to explore American culture and values, participate in enriching programs, and strengthen cross-cultural ties.
