SU Psychology department to co-organize national dragonboat seminar
The Silliman University (SU) Department of Psychology, in collaboration with the SU Athletics Department and the ENERGISE Center for Sport and Exercise Psychology, is co-organizing the PCKF National Dragonboat Coaching Seminar – Level 1, which will be held from July 30 to August 2, 2025, at SU.
This nationally certified seminar is spearheaded by the Philippine Canoe Kayak and Dragonboat Federation (PCKDF) and supported by the Philippine Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission, aiming to elevate coaching standards in dragonboat paddling by integrating physical training with sport psychology and wellness.
Highlighting the growing role of psychology in athletic coaching, the seminar brings together an impressive lineup of speakers from multidisciplinary backgrounds, including sports science, nutrition, physical therapy, and psychology. Among them is Dr. Michele Joan D. Valbuena, a full-time professor at SU’s Department of Psychology, who will speak on psychosocial factors in coaching, drawing from her research and extensive work in sport psychology and athlete well-being.
The seminar will also feature sessions on paddling techniques, mindfulness, injury prevention, biomechanics, and sports nutrition, reflecting a holistic approach to coaching and athletic development.
