
SU alumna recognized for her long-term contribution to the AAPI community
Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee (OSA) Nella Fe Pineda-Marcon was recently honored during the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month Celebration held on May 15, 2025, at the Helen Marshall Cultural Center, Queens Borough Hall, Kew Gardens, New York. She was recognized for her enduring contributions to the AAPI community. The event was hosted by Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr.
AAPI Heritage Month, observed every May, celebrates the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in the United States. These communities encompass a broad range of ethnicities and traditions, including those with roots in China, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, India, and various Pacific Island nations.

Marcon is a proud member of the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) and chairs the Climate Justice Committee, representing NYSNA in various state, national, and international coalitions. Her advocacy has championed safe staffing, climate and environmental justice, and healthcare for all.
Marcon completed High School in 1977 and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1981 at Silliman University (SU). She then pursued her medical studies at Perpetual Help College of Medicine, graduating in 1987. She was recognized by Silliman University as an OSA in the field of Disaster Relief and Climate Justice Advocacy in 2021.
