SU IEMS welcomes Kindai University for an educational tour
The Silliman University (SU) Institute of Environmental and Marine Sciences (IEMS) welcomed students and faculty members from Kindai University, Japan, for an educational tour held on August 18, 2025, at the IEMS grounds.
The visit was highlighted by a lecture from Dr. Aileen P. Maypa, IEMS director, who discussed the importance of environmental conservation in Central Visayas, as well as the challenges faced and victories achieved in the field.
Leading the visiting group were Dr. Jean Tanangonan and Dr. Tadao Kitagawa from the Kindai University Faculty of Agriculture. They were accompanied by their students, who engaged with IEMS faculty and students throughout the day.
Senior students from IEMS guided the visitors on a campus tour, where they not only showcased the facilities but also shared insights from their ongoing undergraduate research. This enriching exchange of knowledge and perspectives underscores IEMS’ commitment to fostering cross-cultural academic exchanges and strengthening ties with international partners.
Representing IEMS in the visit, alongside Dr. Maypa, were faculty member Asst. Prof. Danielle Mark M. Fukuda and students Meg Torralba and Julia Javier.
