
SU-CoE dean designated lead in National Teacher Education Curriculum Writeshop
Silliman University (SU) College of Education Dean Dr. Gina F. Bonior has been designated Lead of the development team for the Bachelor of Education major in English during the “Development Writeshop 2.3: Reframing of the Pre-Service Teacher Education Curriculum – Specialization Component and Specialized Programs” held on August 18–20, 2025 at the Ramada Hotel, Binondo, Manila.
Bonior’s appointment as Lead recognizes her technical expertise and extensive experience in teacher education, considered vital contributions to this national initiative. She is joined as Co-Lead by Dr. Filomena T. Dayagbil, former president of Cebu Normal University.
Bonior completed her Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English, cum laude, at Silliman University. She later earned a Master of Education major in Teaching English as a Second Language and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education major in Reading Education from the University of the Philippines Diliman, as well as a Master of Arts in English as a Second Language from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.

The writeshop builds on the accomplishments of Phase 1, which aligned the pre-service teacher education curriculum with the evolving needs of Philippine education. Phase 2 now focuses on reframing the specialization components of degree programs and redesigning selected tracks to prepare graduates for the challenges of 21st-century classrooms.
The program is an initiative of the Teacher Education Council (TEC) through the Philippine Normal University Research Institute for Teacher Quality, headed by Director Brando C. Palomar. Key deliverables of this phase include: comprehensive program descriptions, finalized lists of courses, unit allocations for specialization and elective courses, finalized course descriptions, degree program outcomes mapping aligned with national standards, and strengthened national collaboration for educational excellence.
The participation of the Silliman University College of Education, through Dr. Bonior’s leadership, underscores SU’s continuing commitment to national efforts in strengthening teacher education. As a TEC-designated Center of Excellence in Teacher Education, SU remains at the forefront of shaping policies and academic programs that will help define the future of teacher preparation in the Philippines.
