
SU and Medical School welcome PAASCU team for three-day accreditation visit

The Silliman University (SU) Medical School, led by Asst. Prof. Jennifer Barimabao, MD, welcomed a team of accreditors from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU) for its Level II Accreditation Re-survey Visit held on September 30 to October 1, 2025.
The PAASCU team was composed of distinguished educators and administrators led by Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz, PAASCU Board of Trustees member and Commission on Basic Medical Education president, along with members Dr. Susan Pelea Nagtalon, Dr. Rey H. Delos Reyes, Dr. Josefina R. Almonte, Dr. Mark Louie C. Mann, Dr. Ramon Jason M. Javier, Dr. Melinda M. Atienza, and Ms. Alma A. Credo.
The evaluation covered key areas including Leadership and Governance, Quality Assurance, Resource Management, Teaching–Learning, Student Services, External Relations, and Research.
Villaruz currently serves as the President of West Visayas State University – Iloilo City. Nagtalon, PAASCU Commission on Basic Medical Education vice chair, is the former dean and chief academic officer of St. Luke’s Medical Center College of Medicine-William H. Quasha Memorial, Inc., as well as a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Delos Reyes is the former dean of Far Eastern University – Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation. Almonte is a professor emeritus at the University of the Philippines Manila. Mann is San Beda University’s Assistant Prefect for Student Affairs and Histology coordinator. Javier is University of the East – Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, Inc. professor and past chair of the Department of Preventive and Community Medicine, founding chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine, and former director of the Community Extension and Social Action Unit. Atienza is the University of Santo Tomas past chair of the Department of Pediatrics and faculty of Medicine and Surgery. Finally, Credo is a PAASCU representative.
The activity was organized in coordination with the Office of Quality Instruction and Excellence (QIE) under the leadership of Dr. Lily Ann D. Bautista, QIE chief.
Dr. Betty Cernol McCann, SU president, welcomed the team on September 30 for a welcome dinner at the SU Library, along with university administration members. On the third day, a closed-door meeting was held, where the PAASCU team opened the floor for discussions with the SU team.
