SU sends delegation to 1st Philippine Nursing World Congress 2025

Silliman University sent ten officers and members of the Psi Beta Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing to represent the institution at the 1st Philippine Nursing World Congress (PNWC) 2025, held from June 25 to 27, 2025, at the Grand Men Seng Hotel in Davao City.

With the theme “Bridging Cultures, Elevating Care: The Global Impact of Filipino Nurses,” the congress gathered nursing professionals, educators, researchers, and global health advocates to explore innovations and leadership in nursing education and practice. The Silliman delegation’s participation showcased the University’s continued leadership in advancing nursing excellence and global collaboration.

The Psi Beta Chapter delegation was composed of:

  • Rozzano C. Locsin (SUCN-BSN Class 1976; MAN 1978), founder of the Rozzano Locsin Institute for the Advancement of Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing and Health Sciences;
  • Evalyn Abalos (SUCN-BSN Class 1978; PhD in Nursing Class 2011), Psi Beta Chapter Counselor;
  • Maria Theresa Belciña Jr. (SUCN-BSN Class 1993; PhD in Nursing Class 2016), President of the Psi Beta Chapter;
  • Freslyn Lim-Saco (SUCN-BSN Class 2004; PhD in Nursing Class 2019), Vice President of the Psi Beta Chapter;
  • Adrian F. Saco (SUCN-BSN Class 2011);
  • Mars Ian Silud (SUCN-BSN Class 2005; PhD in Nursing Class 2024);
  • Fionna Chuang (SUCN-BSN Class 2014; MBA 2019; PhD in Business Administration 2024), Treasurer;
  • Ayeza Cathrina Tinagan (PhD in Nursing Class 2020), Leadership Succession Committee Member;
  • Rhea Jane Rosales (PhD in Nursing Class 2024); and
  • Daisy Palompon, PhD, DSN, RN, FAAN, Chair of the Leadership Succession Committee.

Several members of the SU contingent served as speakers and session moderators during the event.

Belciña, chapter president and session moderator, expressed pride in representing SU at the global gathering.

“Being part of the Philippine Nursing World Congress was a tremendous honor for us. It allowed us to highlight the innovative research and compassionate leadership that define Silliman-trained nurses,” she said.

Palompon, who also spoke at the congress, shared, “The PNWC provided a meaningful platform for collaboration and learning. It was inspiring to see Filipino nurses taking leadership in shaping global healthcare conversations.”

Organized in collaboration with the Rozzano Locsin Institute for the Advancement of Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing and Health Sciences (RLI), the PNWC featured plenary talks, oral and poster presentations, and satellite sessions, with discussions centered on education, clinical practice, leadership, and global health innovations.

Based at SU, the Psi Beta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing is dedicated to advancing the nursing profession through leadership, scholarship, and service. As a chapter of the prestigious Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), Psi Beta recognizes nursing students and professionals who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements and leadership in the field of nursing. The chapter provides its members with professional development opportunities, research grants, and the chance to collaborate with global nursing leaders.

Psi Beta aims to enhance nursing practice and influence healthcare delivery through scholarship and global networking.
