SU Senior High clinches third place in regional science research competition

Silliman University Senior High School (SU SHS) clinched third place in the Applied Research Category of the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) Research Poster Competition held on November 12, 2025, at SM Seaside City in Cebu.

Hosted by the Philippine Science High School – Central Visayas Campus (PSHS-CVisC) in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the competition showcased exemplary research outputs from student innovators across the region.

Representing the Silliman University Senior High School, Grade 12 STEAM L students Johann Miguel S. Imbo and Joshua A. Whitehead presented their study titled “Development and Evaluation of Ergonomic Computer Mouse Designs for Enhanced Comfort and Workplace Productivity.”

Under the mentorship of Asst. Prof. Jan Cynth L. Palama, the study addressed the growing concern over wrist strain and fatigue caused by traditional computer mice. Using a quasi-experimental design, the team developed and tested an ergonomic prototype that showed significant improvements in comfort, usability, and productivity among frequent computer users.

The Silliman research initially stemmed from a class project by a larger group of students with Imbo and Whitehead, including Aventura, Anton; Golez, Lawrence; Mariano, Timothy; Sens, Joshua; and Teves, Joachim, before being refined for competition.

The event formed part of the RSTW celebration, which carries the theme “Science for the Youth,” highlighting the role of young researchers in applying scientific inquiry to address real-world problems.
