SU Library reopens Fidel V. Ramos Reading Center

The Fidel V. Ramos Reading Center (FVRRC) at Silliman University (SU) formally reopened on December 11, 2025, at the third floor of the SU Library.

The reopening was organized by the SU Library under the leadership of University Librarian Dr. Rosalina G. Dinoy.

SU President Dr. Betty Cernol McCann highlighted the significance of the Reading Center as a renewed space for learning and reflection for students, faculty, and community members. In her remarks, McCann recalled SU’s long-standing relationship with former President Fidel V. Ramos, including the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree on him and his participation in campus activities. She emphasized President Ramos’ commitment to lifelong learning, discipline, and public service, noting that these values are reflected in the purpose of the Reading Center that bears his name.

McCann also acknowledged the contributions of library staff, administrators, supporters, and partners who helped restore and refresh the facility, recognizing their efforts in making the Reading Center accessible once again to the academic community.

Rodolfo D. Juan, FVRRC in-charge, provided a brief history of the Reading Center, which was inaugurated on August 25, 2014, during SU’s 113th Founders Day, with former President Ramos as guest of honor. Juan noted that the Center houses a collection of books written by and about President Ramos, as well as official photographs, archival materials, and other resources that document his presidency, public service, and international engagements.
