
SU participates in reg’l AI in education policy development workshop

Silliman University took part in the AI in Education for Future-Ready Workforce: A Policy Framework Development Workshop for Southeast Asia, a regional policy workshop convened by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Center for Educational Innovation and Technology (SEAMEO INNOTECH) on December 11–12, 2025, at Pearl Hall, SEAMEO INNOTECH, Quezon City.
SU was represented by Fredlie P. Bucog, a faculty member involved in technology-oriented upskilling at the Dr. Mariano C. Lao Global Studies Center and one of the contributors to the University’s AI Integration Framework. He served as one of the Philippine delegates representing higher education institutions, alongside representatives from De La Salle University–Manila, Ateneo de Manila University, and the University of the Philippines Diliman, underscoring the strong participation of Philippine HEIs in the regional AI in education policy development process.

Another Sillimanian, Atty. Myrish Cadapan-Antonio, Chief Operating Officer of Khan Academy Philippines and SU Trustee, participated as a panelist in the session “Aligning Skills and Qualifications on AI: Future-Proofing the Southeast Asian Workforce.”
The two-day workshop brought together representatives from Southeast Asian Ministries of Education, SEAMEO Centres, higher education institutions, international development organizations such as UNESCO and the World Bank, as well as education innovators and industry partners. Participants engaged in collaborative discussions and activities focused on ethical governance, data privacy, equity, and human-centered approaches to AI in education, including envisioning future workforce skills and competencies. These cross-country and cross-sector dialogues culminated in the drafting of the initial Regional AI in Education Policy Framework, underscoring the importance of regional cooperation, ethical foresight, and inclusive dialogue in shaping innovative and resilient education systems responsive to future workforce demands.
SU’s participation affirms its commitment to responsible AI integration in education through research, instruction, and community engagement, contributing to national and regional development. Building on its previous engagements with UNESCO on ethical and human-centered AI, the University also supports and assists network-partner schools in developing their AI initiatives, guided by Silliman University’s AI Integration Framework for teaching, learning, and governance.
