
Dumaguete City Council lauds Silliman Band’s first runner-up finish at Sinulog 2026

Silliman University was formally recognized by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Dumaguete through a resolution commending the University for the outstanding performance of its SU Band and Orchestra, led by Asst. Prof. Joseph Albert P. Basa, as First Runner-Up in the Sinulog Brass Band Competition 2026.
The recognition was conferred during a session held today, January 20, 2026, at the Dumaguete City Session Hall, honoring the band’s achievement at the prestigious competition held on January 10, 2026, at the Cebu City Sports Center in Cebu City.
Sponsored by Councilor Hon. Antonio J. Remollo and co-sponsored by Councilors Jose Victor V. Imbo, Jovencio C. Tan, Jr., Melissa L. Sagarbarria, Jason Patrick T. Lagahit, Renz Macion, Rey Lyndon T. Lawas, Maria Marife L. Cordova, and Woodtam C. Maquiling, the resolution noted that the band’s “remarkable achievement highlights the talents of Dumagueteño youth and underscores the importance of supporting cultural development and artistic excellence.”
The Sinulog Brass Band Competition is recognized as one of the country’s most prestigious cultural and musical events.
Present during the recognition along with Basa was Asst. Prof. W. Don F. Flores, dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts (COPVA).
