SU KOICA DX Center conducts 5-day training for SU IT and Business Analytics Professors

Dr. Hee Seok Song leads the five-day KOICA DX Center faculty training at Silliman University.
Explaining the purpose of the training, Song said that Track 3 focuses on building local capacity to sustain the program beyond its initial implementation. “Track 3 is designed to ensure the sustainability of the AI and Big Data Analytics program of KOICA by developing and training local instructors,” he said.
Participants in the training include faculty and staff from the SU Information and Communications Technology Division; the Dr. Mariano C. Lao Global Studies Center; the SU Technical Educational, Vocational and Entrepreneurial Center (TEVEC); the Senior High School Department; the College of Engineering; and the College of Business Administration (CBA).
According to Dr. Wilma Tejero-Libarios, SU CBA dean, the trained faculty members are being prepared to co-teach with Korean IT professors in upcoming KOICA-supported training activities. These include Track 1, a foundational AI and Big Data Analytics program for unemployed local youth, women, and other vulnerable groups; and Track 2, an advanced AI and Big Data Analytics program for university students across Dumaguete City specializing in IT and business analytics.
Highlighting the broader impact of the collaboration, Dr. Younsik Shin, director of Asia-Pacific Cross-Border Cooperation at Hannam University, underscored the symbolic and transformative role of the KOICA DX Center for Dumaguete City. “If the Campanario de Dumaguete has long linked Silliman University with the city’s past and present, Hannam University’s AI and IT training at the KOICA DX Center in 2026 will ring the bell for a digital future—signaling Dumaguete’s leap toward a global innovation city,” he said.
