Faculty chaperone Prof. Kentaro Matsui of Kobe International University (KIU) paid a courtesy visit to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research, Dr. Lily Ann D. Bautista, on February 9, 2026, as part of the ongoing three-week Intensive English Program (IntEP) of the Silliman University Language Learning Center (SULLC).

Joining the meeting were College of Arts Dean Dr. Alana Leilani C. Narciso, Department of English and Literature Chairperson Dr. Joan C. Generoso, SU Media and Public Affairs Chief Dr. Warlito S. Caturay Jr., SU Strategic Partnerships and Enterprise Development officer-in-charge Glynnis Jean C. Casiño, and SULLC Administrative Staff John Edgar C. Rubio.

The visit coincided with the arrival of 10 economics majors from KIU, who began their Intensive English Program. Hosted by the SULLC under the Department of English and Literature, the program runs until February 27 and is designed to strengthen participants’ English proficiency while immersing them in Philippine culture and campus life.

IntEP integrates classroom-based language instruction with guided immersion in mainstream Silliman classes, providing opportunities for authentic interaction with Silliman students. Cultural components, including city walking tours, enrich the academic experience, while each participant is paired with a Silliman “language buddy” who serves as both conversational partner and cultural guide.

KIU has been a valued partner of the SULLC since 2020, participating in both online and face-to-face IntEP offerings, an ongoing collaboration that reflects a shared commitment to global engagement and cross-cultural learning.
