Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee (OSA) and current Silliman University (SU) Board of Trustee, Eduardo Alvarez Bangayan, has recently been chosen as 2026 Datu Bago Awardee for Public Service.

The Datu Bago Awardees Organization, Inc. (DBAO), cited Bangayan as a visionary leader whose work advances economic development, public utilities, and environmental sustainability in Davao City, championing water security, education, and social welfare programs while strengthening public institutions and community resilience.

“The 2026 honorees were selected for their exceptional achievements, leadership, and lasting impact in their respective fields, bringing honor and distinction to Davao City both locally and internationally,” the organization pointed out.

The other awardees are Gene C. Bangayan for Tourism, Maria Cristina Floirendo Brias for Community Livelihood, Alex V. Buenaventura for Rural Banking, Manuel M. Orig for Civic Service, and Welehito N. Pepito for Visual Arts.

Established in 1969 and named after local hero Datu Bago, the Datu Bago Awards is the highest recognition bestowed on exemplary Dabawenyos for their “outstanding contributions to the growth, development, and cultural heritage of Davao City.”

The awarding ceremony will take place on March 18, 2026, at 5 p.m. at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, as part of the celebration of the city’s annual Araw ng Dabaw festivities.

Bangayan earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Silliman in 1973. He was later recognized as an Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee in the field of Entrepreneurship on August 28, 2008. He continues to serve Silliman University as member of the Board of Trustees representing the alumni.
