
OCESL partners with SU health units for Women’s Month community outreach

The Office of Community Engagement and Service-Learning (OCESL) of Silliman University partnered with several health academic units of the university to provide free health and wellness services to community women as part of the observance of National Women’s Month on March 7, 2026, at the SU Multipurpose Room.
Held under the national theme “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” the outreach activity brought together faculty members, staff, and students from the Silliman University Medical School (SUMS), College of Nursing (SUCN), Nutrition and Dietetics (ND) Department of the College of Education, and the Institute of Clinical Laboratory Sciences (ICLS) to deliver essential healthcare services to partner women’s organizations.
Participants included members of the Boloc-Boloc Women’s Association, Libjo Women’s Self-Help Group (LIBWOS), and Nagkahugpong nga mga Kababayen-an sa Barangay Palinpinon (NAKAPA).

The initiative aimed to improve access to basic healthcare services while supporting the health and well-being of women in partner communities.
Services offered during the outreach included medical consultations conducted by volunteer physicians from the SUMS, blood pressure monitoring facilitated by the SUCN, nutrition counseling from the ND Department, and laboratory services from the ICLS.

Laboratory services included blood typing, random blood sugar testing, complete blood count (CBC), Hepatitis B screening, and urinalysis.
Medical consultations were conducted by volunteer physicians from the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB) and Internal Medicine (IM) departments of the Silliman University Medical School. OB physicians included Dr. Ma. Antonia Gem Austria, Dr. Daphne Lynn Rana, Dr. Erlynn Quiñanola, Dr. Anna Lissa Bernadas, and Dr. Franciene Vasquez.

Internal Medicine residents who volunteered during the outreach were Dr. Pernel Micubo, Dr. Anne Dawn Macarine, Dr. Aaron Diao, Dr. Richielyn Miñon, Dr. Gino Moleta, Dr. Jaira Gimena, Dr. Gamaliel Aupe, Dr. Karen Centino, Dr. Chloe Lao, Dr. Jecelle Tulabing, and Dr. Reyna Manuel.
Through the collaborative initiative, SU strengthened its service-learning mission by mobilizing its academic community to deliver meaningful healthcare assistance to local women’s groups.

The outreach activity forms part of the university’s continuing efforts to advance gender equality, strengthen partnerships with community organizations, and promote the health and well-being of women through accessible community-based services.
