SU-GForest Project Joins GCash EcoRun 2026

The Silliman University–GForest Project participated in the GCash EcoRun 2026 held on March 22, 2026, at the Ayala Triangle Gardens, Makati City, bringing its conservation advocacy to a large community of environmental supporters. Around 13,000 runners joined the event, with each participant sponsoring a tree to be planted in identified sites across North Negros Oriental.
Through its “Amazing Mangroves” photo exhibition, the SU-GForest Project highlighted the ecological importance of mangrove ecosystems and the biodiversity they support.

The exhibit featured compelling images aimed to raise awareness of conservation and reforestation efforts in Negros Island. The project was also featured in a short video produced by GCash, showcasing updates on SU-GForest’s South Negros Occidental site, which served as a planting area during last year’s EcoRun.
Since 2024, Silliman University has partnered with GCash in a large-scale reforestation initiative that has planted approximately 2.25 million trees across South Negros Oriental and Occidental, Ticao Island, and, most recently, North Negros Oriental. The partnership underscores a shared commitment to forest restoration, biodiversity protection, and climate change mitigation.

The event featured fun runs at distances of 1K, 3K, 5K, and 10K, attracting participants from various sectors. At the SU booth, runners who selected Silliman-designated planting sites received “I Run for Mangroves” stickers and commemorative face towels as tokens of appreciation.
Representing the SU-GForest Project during the event were Project Coordinator Dr. Hilconida P. Calumpong, Logistics Coordinator Clint G. Alvior, Field Operation Coordinator Floramae J. Neri, and Project Staff Joaquin Lorenzo I. Hernandez.
