Magdamo legacy honored with bronze plaque at Silliman

Silliman University formally unveiled the Magdamo Bronze Plaque on April 10, 2026, at the Guillermo and Mercedes Magdamo Hall, home of the Department of Religion and Peace Studies. The marker commemorates the generosity of the late Rolando V. and Helga Matilde S. Vogt-Magdamo, whose donation continues to support the University’s academic and spiritual mission.
The unveiling ceremony held added significance as it coincided with what would have been the couple’s 54th wedding anniversary. Longtime members of the St. John Presbyterian Church in Reno, Nevada, the Magdamos were remembered for their enduring commitment to faith, service, and education—values reflected in the institution they chose to support.
Present at the event were SU President Dr. Betty Cernol McCann, Divinity School Dean Asst. Prof. Lope B. Robin, Department of Religion and Peace Studies Chair Asst. Prof. Christopher A. Burgos, along with faculty and staff of the Silliman University Divinity School, members of the University administration, SU Student Government executives, and family and friends of the Magdamo family.
The ceremony served as both a tribute and a reminder of the lasting impact of philanthropy in advancing education and nurturing communities grounded in faith and peace.
