CHED Names SU Center of Excellence in Teacher Education; Lone Recipient in Region

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has designated Silliman University as a Center of Excellence (CoE) in Teacher Education — the only one in the Negros Island Region.

CoE is the highest distinction granted by CHED to a university for programs assessed among the country’s strongest in the areas of instruction for innovative curriculum and faculty profile, research and publication, extension and linkages, and institutional qualifications. This recognition taps higher education institutions (HEIs) in providing capacity-building to other schools in the region.

This development brings the number of CoEs in Silliman to three. The University is also a CoE in Information Technology Education and Nursing Education. Teacher Education and Nursing Education are two programs that Silliman has consistently earned a CoE status for.

There are only 36 higher education institutions offering teacher education programs that have been designated by CHED as CoE.

For academic programs with strong potential to eventually become CoE, CHED identifies them as a Center of Development (CoD). There are three programs in Silliman named CoD: Biology, Marine Biology and Medical Technology.
