Krystele Fernandez and Felicia Cantrell (second and third from left, respectively) are at Silliman as part of their exposure trip to the judiciary and the law academe of the Philippines. On July 11, they will give a presentation on laws affecting women and children at a seminar at the Silliman University College of Law which is jointly coordinated by the Gender Watch Against Violence and Exploitation (GWAVE). A few days after that, they will also interface on issues such as human trafficking with other law students and advocates representing cause-oriented non-government organizations in Negros Oriental.

Krystele and Felicia are flanked in the photo by Atty. Mikhail Lee Maxino, Dean of the SU College of Law, and Atty. Sheila Lyn Catacutan-Besario, SCLD Deputy Director. Atty. Catacutan-Besario, who volunteers as a pro bono lawyer at GWAVE, obtained her Master of Laws in Biotechnology and Genomics from ASU on a Fulbright scholarship. It was at ASU where she first met Felicia and joined “13”, a student organization that advocates against sex trafficking.
